Sister M. Patricia Michael, O.Carm passed into eternal life on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA, in the 64th year of her religious life.
Margaret Rose Sweeney was born on February 12,1943 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the second of two daughters born to Thomas and Rose (nee Cavanaugh) Sweeney, natives of Pennsylvania. She is survived by her sister, Marianne.
Having entered the Community on September 7, 1960, Sr. Michael received the Carmelite Habit on April 3, 1961. She made her First Profession of Vows on April 17, 1963 and professed Perpetual Vows on July 1,1967.
Sr. Patricia Michael was assigned to many houses of the Congregation including in New York, Michigan, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Massachusetts. Trained as a Registered Nurse, she held several nursing positions, including Director of Nursing. She served the longest at Sacred Heart Manor, Philadelphia, where from 1980 – 2002 she had the responsibility of being the Superior/ Administrator. Sr. Michael moved to the Assisted Living Convent at St. Patrick’s Manor in 2015, and in 2017, she was admitted to the nursing home.
In 1999, Sr. M. Patricia Michael was awarded the Distinguished Catholic School Graduate Award by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, an honor that was well deserved.
Family and friends will honor and remember Sr. Patricia Michael’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the Holy Family Chapel of St. Patrick’s Manor, 863 Central Street, Framingham on Sunday, July 14th form 3-4:45PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel on Monday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Queen of Carmel Cemetery, St. Teresa’s Motherhouse, 600 Woods Road, Germantown, NY 12526.
