FRAMINGHAM – Framingham State University’s Danforth Art Museum and School is hosting a free community event on Saturday, July 20th, called “Hype the Arts!”

Participate in awesome make-and-take art activities, watch masterful artist demonstrations, enjoy a museum scavenger hunt, and help create a collaborative work of art.  Meet and hear from artists who are represented in Danforth’s 3rd Annual Juried Exhibition.  The event will feature a DJ, art activities, food trucks and much more. It is free and open to the entire community.

“This is our first time doing this event, but we hope it becomes an annual celebration,” says Katherine Tako-Girard, the Danforth’s Learning and Engagement Manager. “This is really about doing outreach to our local community. We still hear from people who don’t realize the Danforth is still open or haven’t visited our beautiful new facility.”

Highlights include:

Make and Takes:

There will be a variety of fun make-and-take activities, including exploring watercolors, comic illustrations, and making bracelets.  There will also be an open studio for you to try your hand at painting at an easel!

Community Art Project:

Join us all day at our Community Art Project!  Happening at our back lawn, paint designs on acrylic rectangles and hang them on rings to create a unique, moving artwork.  The final piece will be displayed in the Danforth Lobby!

Artist Mini Talks:

Meet and hear artists represented in Danforth’s 3rd Annual Juried Exhibition. They will speak on what inspired their work, their process and their practice. We hope you’ll stop by to listen, learn, and interact with some amazing local artists!

Artist Demonstrations:

Join our talented art instructors as they showcase their artistic process. They will demonstrate how they create beautiful works of art in their chosen medium.

Food Trucks:

Come partake in delicious food and treats!  Local food trucks will be on site all day in the parking lot behind the museum!

Performances:

Join us for special performances both in our school’s studios and museum’s gallery space! We will also have festive music taking place for the duration of the event out on the back lawn, brought to you by DJ mortimer!
