Framingham, MA – May 22, 2024 — Hoops and Homework is thrilled to announce a generous donation of $150,000 from The Flatley Foundation. This substantial contribution will significantly support our mission to provide safe and nurturing neighborhood-based after-school programming while expanding opportunities for the youth in Framingham.

The donation from The Flatley Foundation allowed us to purchase our “Hoops Van” and will also be utilized towards expanding our afterschool and teen programs and improving our facilities to create a more conducive learning environment. This funding will enable us to reach more children and families, offering them the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

“We are incredibly grateful to The Flatley Foundation for their unwavering support and commitment to our cause through the last 4 years,” said Kevin Lopez, Executive Director of Hoops and Homework. “This donation will have a profound impact on not only the immediate neighborhood we serve but our community as a whole, allowing us to enhance our programs and reach more individuals in need.”

The Flatley Foundation has a long history of supporting community initiatives and investing in the future of our youth. Their generous donation is a testament to their dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

About Hoops and Homework:

Mission:  Hoops and Homework is a safe and nurturing neighborhood-based after-school program which expands opportunities for youth in Framingham.

Vision: All children in Framingham, regardless of income or neighborhood, will have the support and guidance they need to succeed in school and in life.

Equity Statement: Every child deserves equitable access to quality opportunities and to benefit from its promises: a strong foundation for a successful future. Hoops and Homework commits to take bold action to help eliminate differences in educational outcomes as a result of systemic racism, generational poverty and discrimination through our program.

Founded in 2012, our work is driven by the idea that all children in Framingham, regardless of income or neighborhood, should have the support and guidance they need to succeed in school and in life beyond graduation. Hoops and Homework, provides two safe, supervised learning environments for children who live in the Cochituate Homes (Interfaith) Complex, and the Carlson/ Pusan Public Housing developments. Since the majority of our families come from households with low to moderate income levels, it’s difficult for parents to afford private tutoring or enrichment programs for their children. H&H provides affordable educational support, reducing academic disparities and providing access to extracurricular activities.
