Alacrino Neto Dias, 68, a longtime resident of Framingham died Wednesday, May 1, 2024 after complications following a tragic spinal cord injury. Alacrino died surrounded by his loving family. Born in Plautino Soares, Brazil, he is the son of Erzita Bareto, and the late Sebastiao Dias. He was the beloved husband of Nerilda Madrona Dias.

Alacrino was born into humble beginnings in a small village of Minas Gerais, Brazil. At the young age of just 14, he left the safety of his home to move to the city of Ipatinga. For the next two decades he worked as a steelworker before immigrating to the United States in 1997 with his wife and children. Once in the US, Alacrino worked doing everything from dishwashing, chef, delivery person, and even an entrepreneur. All the while instilling in his children the values of hard work, faith, and family.

Alacrino loved life and he lived it to the fullest. His favorite thing to do was tell stories and jokes (on occasion not the most appropriate ones), and he reveled in the joy and laughter that would fill the room as he did.

Alacrino was first and foremost a family man, and along with his wife Nerilda and his mother Erzita, Alacrino is survived by his sons, Reggie Dias and his wife Isabel, and Doug Dias and his wife Melissa, his grandchildren, Victor, Thomas, Olivia, Connor, and Hunter, his siblings, Jose Dias Barbosa, Osvaldo Dias Barreto, and Cirlene Marins Dias dos Santos, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Sebastiao, Alacrino was predeceased by his sister, Maria Barreto Simoes.

Family and friends will honor and remember Alacrino’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, May 10th from 4-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, May 11 th in St. Tarcisius Church, 562 Waverly St. Framingham at 11:30AM. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Natick.

Following his injury, Alacrino and his family received much support from SCI Boston, a nonprofit organization that supports spinal cord injury patients and their families.
