August “Gus” Cuneo (1933-2024) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL formerly of Framingham, MA and North Quincy, MA passed peacefully on January 22, 2024, with family at his side. Gus was the son of the late Augustus N. Cuneo and Phyllis Merrill Cuneo. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Annie Cuneo, and sons Christopher Cuneo (Patti), Clarks Summit, PA; Geoff Cuneo (Paula), Ashland, MA; Laurie Horn, Milford, MA; and Richard Horn (Heather), Red Lion, PA. He also leaves nine grandchildren, Angela, Corey, Alexandria, Amy, Sidney, Tyler, Luke, Matt, and McKenzie and four great-grandchildren, Sammy, Joey, Henry and his namesake, August.

Gus was one of many great two sport athletes in the Boston Area during the early 50’s. Gus captained the North Quincy School Basketball Team (1949-1951) and was inducted into the North Quincy Basketball Hall of Fame and North Quincy Baseball Hall of Fame. Gus captained the Dean Academy Prep School Basketball Team (1951-1952) and was MVP at the New England Prep School Tournament played at the Boston Garden. In 1952, Gus pitched in the Hearst Sandlot US All Star Baseball game at Yankee Stadium. Gus turned down an opportunity to play Professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians, choosing to attend Northeastern University on an Athletic Scholarship. From 1953-1955 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He went on to attend the American International College from 1957-1960. After College Gus spent 35 years in the Pharmaceutical Business working for Breon Labs, Winthrop Laboratories and Sanofi. Starting as a Sales Rep, advancing to NE Division Manager and retired as Eastern Regional Manager of Trade Relations.

At the age of 40 he fell in love with golf and became a member of the Framingham Country Club. He later enjoyed a 36-year membership at Sawgrass Country Club, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Gus lived a simple life; he always enjoyed a good laugh, a good book, a good college basketball game, a Florida Gators Football game, a good meal, the love of his pets and his family.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 9:30 at Connect Church, 280 Pleasant St., Ashland, MA followed by a graveside service in accordance with Gus’s request, at Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham, MA.
