Sherborn, Mass., July 5, 2023 – Horse SenseAbility announced today that it received a $20,000 grant from the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation. The support will help Horse SenseAbility provide therapeutic riding and horsemanship lessons for young people with special needs.

Horse SenseAbility particularly focuses on working with young people who struggle with mental illness; have autism spectrum disorder; have been in foster care; have experienced trauma from emotional, physical or sexual abuse; are living in low-income, often stressful, situations; or have physical or cognitive disabilities. Equine-assisted activities and therapy fosters patience and empathy, deepens the ability to trust and relate to others, increases control over frustration and anger, develops a strong work ethic, improves social and communication skills, and builds self-esteem and self-regulation

The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation grant will enable Horse SenseAbility to continue providing the highest quality services to over 100 children per year from Boston and MetroWest. The grant will also substantially contribute to giving the best care possible to the horses who are essential partners in the programs.

“We are thrilled to receive this financial support for the many services we provide to our broad and diverse community,” said Executive Director Polly Kornblith. “Without this help, we wouldn’t be able to do as much as well for young people who can benefit from our programs. The grant will also allow us to offer more scholarships to children from families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford equestrian activities.
