City of Framingham Hosting 5th Annual Pride Ceremony on Sunday, June 4

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham will celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride month in June.

On Sunday, June 4, the City of Framingham will raise the Pride Progress flag and hold a celebration at the plaza in front of the Memorial Building in conjunction with the Framingham Public Schools, the Framingham Public Library, and OUT MetroWest.

The public is invited to attend the celebration from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

The City of Framingham will raise the Pride Progress flag.

The Pride Progress Flag was designed in 2018 by graphic designer Daniel Quasar. Along with the rainbow of colors, it also includes five new colors shaped into an arrow or a chevron pointing right. The colors are black, brown, light blue, pink, and white.

“Raising the Pride Progress flag is an act of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. It says we see you and value your role in our community,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.

“Love is love. No matter who you love, no matter how you identify, the City is with you to defend your right to celebrate your truth,” said Mayor Sisitsky.

“It’s an honor for the City to partake in such an event. The PRIDE Progressive Flag represents the diversity that is Framingham.  It’s a symbol that says we see you, we respect you, we value, welcome and support you,” said the City of Framingham Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer Jesse Edwards.

“I am looking forward to joining the LGBTQIA+ community as we all celebrate pride month with the annual flag-raising ceremony. June 4th will be a day for all in the community to celebrate,” said City Council Chair Phil Ottaviani Jr.

The event will feature:

• LGBTQIA+ friendly tables with free give-a-ways
• DJ playing pride songs
• Inspiring speeches.
• Framingham Public Library’s Bookmobile
• Take photos with the library’s pride-themed green screen
• Snacks & refreshments

In honor of Pride Month, the city will also light the Memorial Building in the Progress Pride flag colors in rotation.

The Progress Pride flag retains the standard six-stripe rainbow design as its base and adds black and brown to recognize marginalized people of color, as well as light blue, pink, and white chevron, which are used on the Transgender Pride flag.

Due to technical and safety reasons, the building cannot be lit in black and brown.

• Red – Life
• Orange – Healing
• Yellow – Sunlight
• Green – Nature
• Blue – Peace
• White, Pink, and Light Blue – Transgender Flag
