FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham celebrated Arbor Day on Thursday, April 27, by pruning trees and planting new trees at Cushing Memorial Park.

Joining Framingham DPW employees were students from Keefe Technical High School.

Arbor Day is officially today, April 28.

Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, on April 10, 1872 and was founded by J. Sterling Morton. It is estimated that more than 1,000,000 trees were planted on that day.

Today Arbor Day is recognized as a day to plant and care for trees.

Yesterday, Keefe Tech named its “outstanding student” during the Arbor Day event.

The recipient was Jorge Nieves.
