Framingham – Each year Framingham Veterans Services mark the graves of US Veterans with an American Flag. This year 5,000 flags will be placed in Framingham’s 7 cemeteries by volunteers.
On Saturday, May 20 at 9 a.m. volunteers are needed to help place 2,800 flags in Edgell Grove Cemetery. Edgell Grove is a Historical Landmark because of its unique design. As a result of the design, we need a lot of youth, as well as those Young at Heart, with enthusiasm to tackle this large Cemetery.
May 27 at 9 a.m. is the rain date. If you are interested in volunteering please join us at Edgell Grove. If you have questions, please call Framingham Veterans Services at 508-532-5515 during the Memorial Building working hours.
We try very hard to get each Veteran a flag. In the event we missed someone, please come by the Veteran Services, Room, B-11, in the Memorial Building and we will provide you with a flag.

Flags are placed on the left side (flag’s own right) of the front of the plot’s headstone. This is done to allow cemetery personnel to mow and maintain the cemetery with minimal interference. Many times’ Veterans are buried in family plots in the rear of the headstone. So please check the front of the headstone before getting a
new flag.
Additionally, as we stand in front of each grave, placing this flag, let us take the time to remember the sacrifices of these heroes by saying their names aloud.
Saying the names of these men and women keep their memory alive – the memory of their service, commitment, dedication and love of country. It reminds their families that we continue to stand with them. Let’s remember them in our prayers and recognize that we are free because of their sacrifices.
To close, the Mayor and the Veteran Services Department want to thank each one of you for taking the time to honor our fallen heroes.
For more information or questions please call the Veteran’s Officer at 508-532-5515.
