FRAMINGHAM – Dale Edmund Coates, age 80, of Framingham, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after a valiant battle with COPD.
Born in Louisville, KY, oldest son of the late Edmund Freeman Coates and Irene Mary (Smith) Coates.
Growing up Dale traveled around the country, and to Germany, Japan and Puerto Rico while his dad was in the army.
A graduate of Framingham High School Class of 1961.
After high school he enlisted and honorably served in the United States Air Force.
Following his discharge from service, he went into the moving business and drove tractor trailers all over the country.
He switched gears and became a home improvement contractor.
Dale was strong in moral character. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed camping in his 5th wheel trailer with his wife and dogs. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool. He collected movies and books. Also, he loved to try his luck at the lottery.

Dale is survived by his wife, Margo Coates of Framingham, stepchildren Russell Ward and his wife Tracie of Sudbury, their children Mason Ward and Cole Ward, Christine Ward and her fiancé Kevin of Warren, her children JJ Brown, and Matthew Brown of Rutland. His brothers Gary Coates and his wife Dorothy of Port Orange, FL, Dennis Coates, and his partner Tanny of Pocasset, Aunt Beverly Lynch of Norwood, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dale was predeceased by his sister April Cameron of PA.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton Street, Hudson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Norton Funeral Home, Framingham.
