BOSTON – Framingham High senior Sam Burgess won the 2-mile event at the MIAA Meet of Champions today at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The Meet of Champions is the renamed all-star meet.

Burgess crossed the finish line in 8:59.27 minutes to take the title.

The meet record is 8:49.60 minutes set in 1999 by Franklin Sanchez.

Only four runners have broken 9 minutes this season across the country.

Burgess has the 4th fastest time in America thus far this season.

Over the weekend, Saint John senior Nathan Lopez took second place in 9:01.32 minutes. He has the 5th fastest time in the country this season.

Westford Academy junior Paul Bergeron finished third in 9:04.08 minutes this weekend. He has the 6th fastest time in the country this season.

Burgess has qualified for nationals in the 2-mile.
