FRAMINGHAM – Framingham City Council Chair Phil Ottaviani Jr. released a statement today, February 14, on the written and spoken remarks made by the chair of the Framingham Democratic Committee Mike Hugo on February 7. Ottaviani is a lifelong member of the Framingham Democratic Committee and one of its voting members.

Ottaviani Jr’s full statement is below:

At the last Council meeting, hurtful comments were made by the Chair of the Framingham Democratic Committee regarding special education during public comment on a resolution. Our special education community should be celebrated, and not spoken of as a burden to our municipal budget

These comments are unacceptable and have no place here in the Blumer Room or in the City of Framingham.

As I always tell my daughter Julia, “being kind is a choice.” In Framingham we need more kindness in our thoughts and actions

I am a lifetime member of the Framingham Democrats.

Mr. Hugo’s comments do not reflect my beliefs about our students and their families.

Mr. Hugo personally and privately apologized to me.I have accepted his apology.

However, Mr. Hugo needs to publicly apologize to the Council and Framingham.

I encourage the Framingham Democratic Committee to reflect and handle this situation moving us forward for a more kind and productive attitude in Framingham politics.
