FRAMINGHAM – Betty “Joanne” Mauritz (nee Kastner), 94, a longtime resident of Framingham Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 2, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Joanne was the daughter of the late Emil & Kathryn (O’Brien) Kastner, and beloved wife of John F. Mauritz.

Joanne was raised in Belleville and graduated from Belleville High School in New Jersey.

It was her career with Liberty Mutual that brought her to Massachusetts in 1974, and whereby chance, she met John, the love of her life at the Framingham Ball Room Dance Studio. They married in 1979, settling in Framingham and were blessed with 43 years together. After a 40+ year career with Liberty Mutual, she retired as a Division Service Manager.

Joanne loved a good book, playing games and cards, and was not one to sit still long.  She enjoyed travelling and dancing and was famous for her cupcakes which were baked with love for any occasion.  As she got on in years, she continued to dance and exercise.  Her enduring love for John and family was witnessed daily by the way she lived her life, and her perseverance and tenacity to face life’s challenges.  Joanne conquered many challenges and was a role model of strength to all those who had the pleasure to know and love her.

In addition to her loving husband John of Framingham, Joanne is survived by her siblings in law, Mary & John Mattson of Walpole Massachusetts, Virginia & Sean Sprague of Hawaii, Robert & Christie Mauritz of South Carolina, Joseph Corris of New Jersey, and many dear nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

Joanne was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Salmon, Patricia Ridings, Nancy Corris, and her brother, Robert Kastner.
