WAYLAND – Mary Kathleen (Sullivan) Murray, 77, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded by her family on December 27, 2022 following a short period of declining health.

She was born in Natick on November 29, 1945 the daughter of the late John C. Sullivan and Kathleen B. (Sewell) Sullivan.

Mary was the loving wife of the late Thomas F. Murray, Jr who died on November 7, 1988.

She was the devoted and beloved mother of Michelle M. Murray and her husband Brian Boyea of Barre; Maureen M. Tesmer and her husband Gregory of Marlborough; John J. Murray of Rapid City, SD and Virginia “Gina” Stablein and her husband Terrance of Mendon. She was the cherished grandmother of Craig, Kathleen, Thomas, Melissa, Mackenzie, Faith, Thomas, Joshua, Mary and Sarah. Great-grandmother of Skyler and Matthew. She was the sister of C. Edmund Sullivan of Naples, FL and the late LT John E. Sullivan who was killed in a plane crash while serving aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Mediterranean in 1960. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary attended the Cochituate Schools and graduated from Marian High School in Framingham. She also attended Framingham State College.

She was a longtime resident of Cochituate before moving to Warren to be closer to her family. For over 15 years, she served the Town of Wayland as a Public Safety Dispatcher before retiring.

She was active in the affairs at St. Zepherin Church and taught CCD for years. Mary was a devout Catholic and found comfort in her faith.

In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout Leader, loved her Boston Red Sox and was an avid reader. She spent many years doing genealogical research with her friend Judy St. Croix and was able to trace her family back to the 1500’s.

Mary was widowed at a very young age and devoted her life to her four children who were the center of her life. She will be fondly remembered and loved by all who knew her.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main St (Rt 27), Cochituate Village, Wayland. All family and friends are asked to go directly to the church.

Private family interment will be held for her family in the Murray family lot in St. Zepherin Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, her family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Mary’s memory may be sent to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
