QATAR – Argentina won its first World Cup in 36 years, defeating France in penalty kicks.

The game ended in a 3-3 tie after double overtime, but Argentina won it 4-2 in penalty kicks.

Argentina had a 2-0 lead at halftime, but France tied it up to force OT.

There was a small celebration in downtown Framingham, and the crowd at Tropical Cafe in downtown Framingham was clearly rooting on the Latin American country over the 2018 World Cup winners France.

The crowd and the celebration would have been much, much larger if Brazil had won, but they were knocked out early.

Today, the 35-year-old Messi ended his career with the World Cup title that had eluded him.

Playing in his fifth World Cup, Messi scored two goals in the finals, including the first goal and the first penalty kick.

French star Kylian Mbappé scored a hat trick in the final, but Brazil’s goalie Emiliano Martínez was amazing when it came to penalty kicks.

While Mbappé scored against him, he stopped two of the four kicks he faced to secure the win for Argentina.

Argentina had 20 shots on net compared to France’s 10 in the final.
