NEWTON – The Tigers of Newton North High handed the Framingham High girls basketball team its first loss of the season tonight, December 16.

Tigers defeat the Flyers 59-53.

“It was a tough loss for the Flyers. We went back and forth or tied each quarter. Unfortunately, we battled foul trouble and injuries deep in the fourth where we let the game slip away,” said Head Coach Kristen Fucarile.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game and Newton hit some big shots,” said the head coach. “I am proud of the team for not giving up when we started to lose players to injuries or foul trouble. It wasn’t our best game and shooting 8 for 20 at the foul line really hurt us.”

Senior captain Selina Monestime led the Flyers with 16 points in the loss.

Senior captain Katie Regan scored 15 points, with Caroline Galvani with 11 points.

It was the first road game for the Flyers, and their first loss.

“Luckily, this is a tough and smart group that will learn from this and only improve,” said Coach Fucarile. “We are back to work tomorrow to prepare for Wellesley.”

Framingham is now 2-1 on the season. The Flyers will host the Raiders on Tuesday night.
