FRAMINGHAM – Framingham High senior Summer Haarala has signed to play Division 1 soccer with the University of New Hampshire.

Haarala was a 4-year starter on the Framingham High varsity team, and one of the captains this year.

She scored 7 goals and had three assists in the 2022 season.

“She started and played nearly every minute of every match,” said her head coach jen DeFusco. “Summer is dedicated to her craft. She trains hard on her own and with the team to be at her best.  Over the last four years, she has steadily developed and become a creative offense threat.  Her leadership this year was amazing on and off of the field.”

“She has the unique ability to encourage others and help the team to succeed by being a positive influence and always leading by example.  Summer always gives 100%.  I know that when she leaves for college she will be well prepared because she is intrinsically motivated and always perseveres when challenged,” said her head coach.

A member of the national Honor Society, she was a member of the Flyers that competed in the MIAA Division 1 soccer tourney in 2021 and 2022.

Haarala was a member of the NEFC DPL League national playoffs in 2020 and 2021.

She was a member of the US Youth Futsal National Team that went to Portugal in 2018 and Barcelona in 2019.

Haarala is scheduled to graduate in spring 2023.

University of New Hampshire was 9-6-3 this season.
