FRAMINGHAM – Paul B. Scagnelli, 87 years old, of Kittery, Maine, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Cape Neddick, Maine, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2022.

Paul was born in Framingham, on February 27,1935. He was the son of Francis J. Scagnelli Sr. and Katherine F. (Hart) Scagnelli. He had two older brothers, Francis Jr. (deceased) and wife Barbara of NC, and Richard and wife Jerry (both deceased) of Douglas.

Paul was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Ceppetelli) Scagnelli in 2021. They had a deeply caring connection; she was the love of his life.

He attended Natick High School, Bullis Academy, MD, and the University of Connecticut where he was co-captain of the UConn Huskies football team. He led his team to back-to-back Yankee Conference championships in 1957 and 1958. Paul was a Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and selected as an All-American in football. He was recruited by the NY Giants but chose to continue his education and received his master’s degree in education from Framingham State College in 1964.

Paul worked in education for 30 years where he served in various capacities: teacher, Department Head, and football and golf coach. He was employed in Millis, Milford, and Malden.

He was appointed as the first Director of Occupational Education in the State of Massachusetts in March 1972.

He belonged to the Nobscott Valley Football Officials Association and the Framingham School Committee representing Keefe Vocational Technical School.

Paul retired from the Malden School System in 1990 and relished taking many trips abroad with Barbara.

Paul enjoyed staying physically fit, following the UCONN and NE Patriots football games, as well as entertaining family and friends on his deck in Maine. He had a special fondness for the ocean and spent most of his life near the coast. Above all, Paul loved his family. He cherished the time that he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Paul and Barbara hosted wonderful annual family Christmas parties that were highly anticipated and enjoyed by all. Paul had a profound capacity for compassion and made those who knew him feel cared for and appreciated. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Paul is survived by his three children: son David Scagnelli and wife Nancy of South Burlington, VT, daughter Lynne Sullivan and husband Timothy of Wayland, MA, and daughter Karen Scagnelli and partner Mark Mueller of Belchertown, MA. He was the loving and adoring grandfather of nine grandchildren: Connor Scagnelli, Ryan Scagnelli, Megan Scagnelli, Michael Sullivan, Ashley Otmaskin, Peter Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Meaghan Horak, and Hannah Horak and five great-grandchildren: Brayden, Mackenzie, Delaney, Seraphina, and Nolan.
