FRAMINGHAM – It’s the beginning of a new athletic season, and Keefe Regional Technical School girls varsity volleyball team looks to start their upcoming 2022 schedule with an away game September 6,
against Bay Path Minutemen Regional High School in Charlton.
The Broncos will once again be led by Head coach Matthew Warren.
Coach Warren said there were 50 girls in total to try out for the teams. Out of all girls who tried out,
there are currently 37 players between the JV1, JV2, and varsity teams.
“I have three returning seniors but a very young team otherwise including two freshman
players,” Coach Warren said.

With MIAA announcing fall practices can begin as early as August 22, or August 19 with a practice mandate, Warren made sure that’s where he and his team would be, preparing for game one.
The Broncos will be led by the three senior captains – Schlonande Gelin, Kaisha Perez, and
Santa Silva.
“They have all played on the team since freshman year and they are all really good friends,”
Coach Warren said.
The position each girl plays serves an important role in helping the success of the team.

Gelin is one of the teams’ middle hitter, blocking the opponents spikes on defense, and executing fast attacks on offense, said the head coach.
Silva is the team’s setter on the court. Her important role as the communicator makes or breaks her teammates’ understanding of what’s happening at all times, said Coach Warren.
Perez is positioned as an outside hitter – the focal point of the offense attacks. It is up to her to
complete most of the attack hits, said the head coach.

The girls’ friendship on the team has created a great playing dynamic that Warren believes gives the team an advantage against future opponents.
While Coach Warren is gearing up for the upcoming season with his new team, despite starting fresh with many of the girls he said, “This is a young team, but one with a very bright future.”
The Broncos’ first home game is Friday, September 9 against Blackstone Millville Regional High School at 3:30 p.m.
