The individual was “scammed into depositing $900 into a Bitcoin machine,” said Lt. Mickens.
Police remind residents that utility companies will not ask individuals to pay their electricity bills with Bitcoin.
If someone shows up at your house and threatens to turn off the electricity, call your electricity company before paying anything, said police.
