LEOMINSTER – A police officer in Leominster was struck by a Framingham woman Friday night, according to police.

The Leominster Police Officer was helping guide a tow truck out of a parking lot onto Route 117 when he was struck by a vehicle on Lancaster Street.

The tow truck was needed for an earlier crash at Lancaster Street and Elm Hill Road.

Leominster Police Officer, who was identified as Garrett Hardy, was transported to the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Police Chief Aaron Kennedy said the officer would need surgery to repair a left leg injury, and the officer also suffered a concussion.

The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as a Framingham woman on her way home, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, police said.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police and the Leominster Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau are investigating the crash.
