MARLBOROUGH – Michael A. Burnell, 61, of Marlborough passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 surrounded by his family after a heroic battle with cancer.
He was the husband of the late Lisa M. (Adams) Burnell who passed away in 2007.
He leaves behind his sons, Michael J. Burnell and his wife Candace of Marlborough, and Daniel C. Burnell and his girlfriend Marissa Flynn of Marlborough, and his two grandchildren Joseph and Emma Burnell. He also leaves behind his girlfriend Sue Manzo of Marlborough. His brothers, David Burnell of Boylston, Richard Burnell of Marlborough, and Gary Burnell of Mendon. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Michael “Mike” was born in Brattleboro, VT. He was the son of the late Stuart and Joyce Burnell.
Mike resided in Marlborough for most of his life. He was a dedicated worker at New Horizons for 13 years; all the residents loved “Big Mike”. Prior to this, he was a jack-of-all-trades doing construction, mechanic work, and whatever other occupation presented itself. He was talented with his hands, and had a broad skill set.
Mike brought light and love to everyone he met. He always knew how to make everyone smile and laugh. He was a wonderful dad, husband, friend, coworker, and partner. However, one title he held high above all, was grandfather. Joe and Emma were Mike’s pride and joy. He looked forward to every second he was with them, and fought hard until the very end to be there for his family. Mike will be deeply missed by all. We find peace knowing that his wife, Lisa, greeted him in heaven and that he is no longer fighting each and every day.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street in Marlborough.
There will be a celebration of life to follow at the Italian American Club located at 111 Neil Street, Marlborough.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in memory of Michael Burnell to Friends of Dana-Farber, 450 Brookline Ave., SW120, Boston, MA 02215. We are so grateful for them the past year, the treatment they gave our father, and the extra time we got to have with him.
