NATICK – Natick Public Schools announced Troy Holding as the next principal of Memorial Elementary School. Holding begins his new role on July 1, 2022, and succeeds Susan Balboni, the district’s current director of teaching, learning, and innovation.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Troy back home to Massachusetts,” said Natick Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anna Nolin. “His leadership as an experienced principal in diversity, equity, and inclusion in a variety of school settings make him the epitome of our Profile of a Natick Educator. We look forward to having him lead our dedicated staff at Memorial and seeing our staff and students thrive under his leadership. Every professional we interviewed about his contributions also indicated that he creates warm, personalized and lasting relationships with families and students that creates a culture of belonging and school pride. ‘Staff are swept up in his vision to support children,’ said his most recent supervisor.”

Holding has served as principal at Theodore Judah Elementary School in Sacramento, California, since 2017. As a senior leader in the Sacramento City Unified School District, he provides resources and support in curriculum, instruction, and professional development in a district with more than 30,000 students and 5,000 employees. His current duties include overseeing curriculum and instruction for all pre-kindergarten through sixth grades.
Holding implemented universal design of learning for all K – 6 classrooms in an effort to provide equity and access to all students, as well as facilitated race and social justice, equity and access, and social-emotional learning system structures for SCUSD. At Twin Rivers, he led a dual immersion program for kindergarten to fifth grades.
Holding has also curated professional development for culturally responsive classrooms with social justice practices, led professional learning for teachers and classified staff, and provided direction for distance learning structures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Holding’s previous roles include serving as a principal in the Twin Rivers Unified School District and Seattle Public School District. He began his career in education teaching fourth and fifth grades for nine years. While serving in Broward County, Florida, Holding was elevated to an instructional coach before becoming an assistant principal in the system for five years.
“I am excited, blessed, and honored to serve at Memorial Elementary and the Natick community as the next principal,” Holding said. “I, along with the faculty and staff, pledge to build upon the foundations of excellence laid before us to provide the best comprehensive elementary school experience.”
Holding earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Boston College, a Master of Arts in Education from Cambridge College, and a Master of Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
He is a native of Revere, and graduated from Revere High School.
