FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham Police Department is inviting vendors to submit bids for its drone program.

These tracking products will be used for searching and rescuing persons with autism, Alzheimer’s, down syndrome, dementia and other cognitive conditions who may wander off and become lost, according to the City.

Framingham got a $122,725 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Kevin and Avonte program in November 2021.

Through the grant, Framingham can purchase wristwatches that track local residents with Alzheimer’s disease, autism and dementia. The bids are for these wristwatches.

The bids documents will be available tomorrow, March 2 at 10 a.m.

Bids are due by Wednesday, March 16 at 10 a.m. in the vendor registry – https://vrapp.vendorregistry.com/Vendor/Register/Index/city-of-framingham-ma-vendor-registration

The City reserves the right to reject any and all submissions, to waive any minor informalities & technicalities, or to cancel the bid if it were in the public interest to do so.

Some drones can use individuals’ mobile phones as beacons to give their exact location. It does not require collaboration with the missing person to be able to locate them.

The drones can do the work regardless of the network in place as it works in 2G, 3G, 4G and no signal areas.
