ASHLAND – Ashland Public Schools announced today, February 25, 3 individuals have accepted invitations to interview as a finalist in the search for a new director of student services.

Ashland’s director of student services reports directly to the superintendent and is primarily responsible for special education instructional practices and supports.

The three finalists are:

Joyce Elia-Renaud: For over 20 years, Elia-Renaud has held various key leadership roles in the education field. She currently serves as an assistant principal for the Worcester Public Schools and an adjunct professor for Assumption University.

Erin Miller: An Ashland native, Miller is currently the director of student services for Natick Public Schools. She previously served as an assistant principal of special education and in various other positions for Franklin Public Schools.

Brittany Smeltekop: Smeltekop, a licensed special education administrator for all levels, is currently the team chairperson for Ashland Public Schools. Previously, she served as an assistant principal for Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District.

The community is invited to meet the finalists during virtual meetings next week — one for each candidate.

  • Brittany Smeltekop: March 2, 5:30 pm., Zoom


Input from all individuals in the community is welcome.

An online feedback form will be available to submit comments about the candidate finalists.

The deadline to complete the form is Friday, March 4.

All comments will be kept in strict confidence.
