FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High girls ice hockey team defeated Walpole High at Loring Arena 3-1 yesterday afternoon.

Despite a lackluster first period which saw the Flyers go down 1-0, they rallied back strong in the second and third period to secure the programs first win over Walpole since January 24, 2015.

With just over a minute left in the second period and on a power play opportunity, junior Sophia Tersoni gathered the puck off a pass from junior Mason Puumala, walked to the center of the slot and ripped a low slapshot past the Walpole goalie to  tie the game up. Tersoni’s equalizer was the first of her career, and changed the momentum of the game.

The third period was all Framingham, as the Flyers outshot Walpole 9-5 in the final stanza, and controlled the play.

Junior Amber Welch collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and walked into the offensive zone where she snapped a high shot past the Walpole goalie to put the Flyers up 2-1. Freshman Maggie Robinson and sophomore Carolyn Cotta were credited assists on the goal.

Under a minute later, senior Logan Steele crashed the net hard to pick up a rebound that came off a shot from Cotta, and was able to bury the puck for the third goal of the game. Assists on the play went to Cotta and sophomore Alix Russo.

Junior Mikal Franklin was stellar in net, posting 23 saves on 24 shots.

The Flyers are off until a date TBD after the city imposed a pause on all group activities and extracurricular activities last night.

The Mayor and the Superintendent announced a pause in all activities through January 21.
