FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Mayor-elect Charlie Sisitsky today, December 28, announced the appointment of Susan Nicholl of Framingham as his administrative Chief of Staff.
Sisitsky will be sworn in as Framingham’s mayor at noon on New Year’s Day.
As Chief of Staff, Nicholl will assume the duties of senior advisor for external relations and oversee the mayor-elect’s administrative staff, including the positions of Public Information Officer and Citizen Participation Officer.
Nicholl is working closely with the mayor-elect by reaching out to people with a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds to ensure that they have opportunities in the new administration. These are key positions that will handle official communications from the mayor’s office and encourage citizens’ access to and engagement with City government.
“Whether it be with the non-profit and business sectors or staff and management, throughout her career, Susan has been a coalition builder between disparate groups, and that is exactly the type of person I want working with me to oversee my pledge to bring transparency, cooperation, diversity and inclusion throughout city government in Framingham,” said Sisitsky about Nicholl’s appointment.
Nicholl, a graduate of Colgate University, has spent most of her career working in and on behalf of the MetroWest region. She joins the mayor’s staff after spending more than three years serving as Massachusetts Senate President Karen E. Spilka’s District Liaison.
Shortly after moving to Framingham 25 years ago, Nicholl chaired the Framingham Education Foundation, then the MetroWest Nonprofit Network, which led her to help create and launch the statewide Massachusetts Nonprofit Network.

She was the founding director of the MetroWest Visitors Bureau, an economic development organization serving 19 municipalities. That experience and the relationships she developed there led directly to her position with Senate President Spilka.
Nicholl is the recipient of several awards that reflect the dedication and experience she brings to the Sisitsky Administration, including Women Making History Now Award (Framingham State University), MetroWest Spirit Award (Metropolitan Area Planning Council), and the Unsung Heroine of Massachusetts Award (Women’s Caucus of the Massachusetts Legislature).
“I’m grateful to Mayor-elect Sisitsky for this opportunity to apply my experiences in the state Senate and our Framingham community,” said Nicholl. “His emphasis on creating an inclusive and engaged Framingham certainly resonated with the voters, and I am excited to be part of the team effort of bringing it to fruition.
