FRAMINGHAM – Robert “Bob” McKay, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his life partner of 28 years, Lynne (DeLuca) Hennessey of Framingham/Plymouth. He was the son of the late of Audrey and Richard McKay.
Bob was born in Natick in 1948.
After graduating from Natick High School in 1967, Bob went on to a long and distinguished career as a prototype fabricator at Natick Labs (US Army Natick Soldiers System Center). In his 37 year career, Bob contributed to hundreds of highly innovative military projects focusing on the combat capability and safety of our country’s soldiers. Bob was loved and highly respected by his friends and colleagues for his gentle nature and compassion.
Bob spent most of his life in Ashland at his beloved home of 31 years. He found true enjoyment in socializing with friends, neighbors, and family. He loved gardening, DIY, classic rock music, vintage muscle cars, and everything animals. He was a die-hard fan of our Boston sports teams, particularly his Boston Bruins.
In his later years, Bob moved to Kingston, to be closer to nature and his life partner, Lynne. They spent their time traveling throughout New England, whale watching, and visiting friends and family across the country.
In addition to his partner, Lynne, he is survived by his sister Susan McKay of Wayland, his niece Jennifer McKay of Northborough, and his nephew Scott Pike and partner Erin Matlack of Holbrook. He was the brother of the late Grace Mercurio, Audrey Pike, and Dickey McKay.
A memorial service will be held Friday Oct. 29 at noon in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street in Ashland. One visiting hour will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or the VFW of Massachusetts in Bob’s memory.
