FRAMINGHAM – The 125th running of the Boston Marathon will take place in October and not April in 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, October 11.

But there will be no Mile 6 event in Framingham this year.

“We are just focusing on Oktoberfest this year,” said Anthony Lucivero, Executive Director, Downtown Framingham, Inc.

In 2014, MediaBoss, the City of Framingham, and Downtown Framingham Inc created the “6 Mile Moment” for 2014 Boston Marathon.

The event was a direct response to the Boston Strong message following 2013’s tragedy.

In 2019, DFI re-branded the Mile 6 moment to Celebrate6 Marathonfest.

The event was moved to a larger lot along the Boston Marathon Route, with food trucks, live bands and stage, more
interactive vendors, and multiple street performers.

The event also hosted a special cheering section for Team Framingham, enabling friends and family to gather together and cheer on their runners.

In 2020, there was no Boston Marathon, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The marathon was first postponed from April to October, and then cancelled.
