FRAMINGHAM – Stephen Davis “Steve” Pratt, 95, died peacefully at his home in Westborough on May 23, 2021. Born in Dedham, he was the son of Frederick Haven Pratt and Margery Davis Pratt.
Steve grew up in Wellesley Hills and graduated from Wellesley High School.
He is a graduate of Harvard College, where he participated in the V-12 naval officer training program in conjunction with Columbia University Midshipmen’s School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on USS LSM-165 in the Pacific during WWII.
Steve married Anna Lois (Anne) Reuling in West Newton on October 21, 1950. They lived in Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline before buying a home in the Nobscot section of Framingham. They lived there for over 60 years before moving to Westborough.
Steve taught math as a middle school teacher in Wayland and Maynard. He was also a technical writer and editor at various technology companies including Waters Corporation, Jackson and Moreland, Sylvania, Honeywell Bull, and David Clark Company.
Steve had many talents and interests, including music, local history, genealogy, piano tuning, and creative upkeep of the family’s house and barn. He was an expert tennis player and a recurring champ at the Sudbury River Tennis Club in Framingham. He sang baritone in the First Parish of Framingham church choir and the Gateway Guardsmen barbershop chorus. He played piano, violin, viola, and double bass, and especially enjoyed playing his bass with swing jazz bands, including the State Street Ramblers.
Steve was a past president of the Framingham Historical Society, a member of the Society of the Cincinnati veterans’ organization, a trustee at a local nursing home, and a volunteer radio broadcaster of classical music at WICN-FM in Worcester. Well into his retirement, Steve continued living a life of selfless service to others. He assisted many local seniors with computer support and rides to medical appointments, and often provided entertainment by performing live music at senior facilities.
Steve is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Anna Lois (Anne) Reuling Pratt of Westborough; his two sons, Allen D. Pratt and his partner Marion Webster of Clinton, and Daniel H. Pratt and his partner Franny Tachino of Friday Harbor, WA; his daughter-in-law and mother of his grandchildren, Catherine Chapin and her husband Brad of Ayer; his two granddaughters, Abigail Pratt Dunne and her husband Rian of Cranston, RI, and Lindsey Pratt Rush and her husband Thomas of Putnam Valley, NY; his two great-grandchildren, Holly Dunne and Everett Rush; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held later in the year, with interment to be in Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
