FRAMINGHAM – Alberta J. (Palanzi) Finlay, 79, of Worcester died peacefully, at UMASS Medical Center, Worcester, after many years of declining health on Saturday, March 6, 2021, surrounded by her children.

Born and raised in Framingham, she was a devoted wife, proud mother of five children, loving grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the definition of a matriarch who dedicated her life to her family.

Her dedication, kindness and compassion for others, was recognized by all who knew her, especially her children and grandchildren.

Alberta was proud of her Sicilian heritage and family traditions were important to her.  When it came to family dinners, everyone was welcome in her home to enjoy her amazing cooking.  She made many delicious Italian dishes including pastas from scratch.  She canned vegetables from her husband’s garden to make homemade sauce.

Alberta loved her flower garden and was often asked by others to make floral arrangements for wedding and special occasions. She also enjoyed crafting and traveling with her husband.

Alberta retired from Framingham Union Hospital as a medical secretary. After retirement, she continued working for various doctor’s offices.

She was very active in the Framingham Firefighters Wives Association and also in charge of running many firefighter family gatherings and picnics.

She was very active in her children’s lives and devoted her time taking on the roll of den mother, scout mother for troop 6, and had the joy of pinning her oldest son, Michael for Eagle Scout.

Alberta will be sorely missed by her children, Lauri Esposito & her husband David of Boylston, Sandra Carmel & her husband Christopher of Framingham, Scott Finlay of Worcester, Richard Finlay & his wife Patricia of Framingham, her grandchildren, Danielle Jusseaume, Gianna Finlay Hudson, Olivia Finlay, and Robert Finlay, her great grandson, Adonis Higginbottom, her brother James Palanzi and his wife Lenore of Franklin, as well as several nieces and nephews, and cousins whom she loved, adored and enjoyed spending time with.

Besides her beloved husband, Robert W. Finlay, Alberta was predeceased by her son, Michael Finlay, her son-in-law, Alfred Jusseaume, her grandson Robert Jusseaume, her parents, Albert & Frances (Speranza) Palanzi, and her mother-in-law, Sally Finlay.

Considering the current health restrictions, Alberta’s family will honor and remember her life privately.

Her Funeral Service will be live streamed on Friday morning, March 12 at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Alberta’s name to: New Beginnings Wellness Programs, www.nbwprograms.org, or to Framingham Force, www.framinghamforce.org

Arrangements are by the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home of Framingham.  For live streamed services, or to share a memory with the Finlay family, kindly visit www.mccarthyfh.com
