FRAMINGHAM – Mary Alice (McLaughlin) Gallagher, 88, a lifelong resident of Framingham passed away peacefully Friday, February 19, 2021 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, at home with her family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late James Francis Gallagher with whom she shared 35 years of marriage before his passing in 1992.

Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Elizabeth (McIntyre) McLaughlin.

She was a 1950 graduate of Framingham High School, and in 1954 received her teaching degree from Framingham State Teachers College.

After college Mary accepted a job as a third grade teacher at the Warren Oaks (McCarthy) Elementary School in Framingham she taught for 8 years until she left to have her 4 children after they were all in school full time she went back to McCarthy as the Librarian until her retirement.

Her favorite thing was spending time with her family. Vacations on Cape Cod, Traveling Abroad, and going out to eat. She was an avid reader and you very rarely ever found her without a book, magazine, or newspaper in her hands. Mary was a devoted catholic and lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Parish in Framingham, she loved to sing and was a proud member of the St. Stephen’s church choir, she also taught CCD for St. Stephen’s for 50 years from first grade through Confirmation at the St. Stephen’s School as well as her home.

Mary was also a lifelong member of the world renowned Framingham Heart Study.

Mary loved to volunteer and was a member of many local organizations some of which were Birthright of Framingham, Catholic Women’s Club, Catholic Daughters, Ladies Sodality, Red Hat Society, and the Framingham Historical Society. Mary had an infectious laugh, always made you feel welcomed and loved, and was known for being a fabulous story teller.

She is survived by her four children, Mark Gallagher and his wife Adriane, Mary Gallagher, Ann Gallagher, Shawn Gallagher and his wife Melissa, and her five beloved grandchildren  Andrew, Amanda, Sara, Shannon, and Silas (The Boss) all of Framingham. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jean Gallagher of Framingham and her many nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friend Helen Falone of Framingham.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions presently in place, her Wake and Burial will take place privately.

Her Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday February 24, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Church, 251 Concord Street in Framingham.
