BIDDEFORD, MAINE – Framingham resident Isabella Petroni was named a sophomore scholar by the University of New England.

Petroni, a Framingham High Class of 2019 graduate, is a sophomore at the University on the ocean coast in Biddeford, Maine.

She is enrolled in a dual degree program to earn a BS in environmental studies and a BA in marine affairs.

The Sophomore Scholar Program is a part of the ULEAD Scholarship Program. It involves an award of a $1,000 scholarship to a maximum of 8 sophomores, who demonstrate a history of outstanding leadership in and outside the classroom and continued involvement throughout their UNE career and beyond.

The outcomes of the program are to develop self-management skills, work on collaboration through group projects, and work on building community on campus.

Scholars receive mentorship, participate in socials, attend required leadership retreats, help to plan UNE’s Leadership Conference, attend leadership workshops, and prepare a leadership workshop with a mentor once a semester.

There are roughly 500-600 sophomore at the University of New England.
