NATICK – The Town of Natick and the Library Board of Trustees began advertising for a “dynamic and visionary leader to become the next director of the Morse Institute Library” today, December 1.

The salary range is $85,000-$110,000, based on qualifications.

The Morse is a busy service-oriented public library and offers robust services, collections and programming to the 36,000+ residents of Natick. The library has a professional staff comprised of 55 full and part-time represented employees.

“The Library Director reports to the Board of Trustees and the Natick Town Administrator and works closely with other elected and appointed officials. The director oversees and monitors all library operations, including budgeting, personnel management, and facilities management. The director provides leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate library services; oversees long-range planning; prepares the annual budget; promotes and oversees staff development; recommends and implements Board policies; develops and implements administrative procedures to accomplish library service goals; oversees the preparation of applications and proposals for external funding; and actively advocates for the needs of the library at local, regional, and state levels to ensure the maintenance of quality services, and strong collections and programming,” according to the job posting.

The candidate must possess the following qualifications: a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school, and a Certificate of Professional Librarianship issued by the MBLC.  In addition, he/she must have a minimum of seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible public library experience including, five (5) or more years of supervisory experience. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are a must, along with collective bargaining, and strong budgetary management experience.
