BOSTON – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey today, August 11 named Lauren Moran as Chief of her Fair Labor Division, which protects workers from exploitation and sets a level playing field for employers by enforcing wage and hour, public construction, and child labor laws.

“Our Fair Labor Division works hard every day to ensure that workers in every part of our state and across all industries get the wages they have earned and are protected under the law,” said Healey. “Lauren has been a leader within the Division for years and will bring a deep well of experience and knowledge to her new role as Division Chief.”

As Chief of the Fair Labor Division, Lauren Moran will oversee the Division’s enforcement of Massachusetts laws that protect workers including the payment of minimum wage, prevailing wage, overtime, and public construction bid laws, as well as the state’s Earned Sick Time Law and Domestic Workers Bill of Rights. The Fair Labor Division has broad powers to investigate and enforce violations of these laws through criminal prosecutions and civil enforcement actions. The Division uses this authority to protect employees from exploitation by employers, prosecute employers who are failing to follow the state’s wage and hour laws, and set a level playing field with clear rules that employers can follow, ensuring that strong economic growth and fairness for workers go hand-in-hand.

Moran has served as the Deputy Chief of the Fair Labor Division since October 2015. Prior to her appointment as Deputy Chief, Moran worked in the Fair Labor Division for more than five years representing the state in both criminal prosecution and civil enforcement actions and conducting community engagement on behalf of the division.

Moran also previously served as the Chief of Staff for the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance for three years. She is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and Syracuse University and a resident of Cambridge.

Forty percent of the Division’s employees speak at least one other language, including Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Vietnamese. It protects employees from exploitation and wage theft through strong partnerships and community education.
