WASHINGTON DC – The United States surpassed 5 million coronavirus cases today, August 8.

Second in the world is Brazil, which now has more than 3 million cases, and more than 100,000 deaths, as of today.

The United States now has more than 162,000 deaths due to COVID-19.

India is third with more than 2.1 million cases.

Italy, which was once the hot spot has a just over 250,500 cases.

China, where the virus originated, is reported under 90,000 total cases.

As of today, August 8, Massachusetts is reported 112,173 cases, with 8,500 deaths linked to the virus.

Massachusetts is 12th in the nation for total cases.

The top state is California with more than 555,000 cases. The others in the top 5 are Florida, New York, Texas, 7 Georgia.
