MARLBOROUGH – Irene E. (Surprenant) Gaucher, 98, of Marlborough died Tuesday July 28, 2020 at Marlborough Hospital after a brief illness. 

She was born in Fiskdale, the daughter of the late Francis (Frank) and Marguerite (Lucier) Surprenant and was raised and educated in Northborough.

Irene was a print setter for Machinery Electrification in Northborough for many years. She also worked in several capacities for the Sisters of St. Anne, including as a hairdresser and seamstress. She loved travelling, baking and sewing, often making many of her own clothes.

She was the mother of the late Edward T. Surprenant Sr., who died in 2018. She leaves her daughter-in-law Patricia E. (Grasso) Surprenant of Marlborough; three grandchildren, Edward T. Surprenant Jr. of Marlborough, Linda J. Decker, and her husband Stephen of Hudson and Susan H. Lupisella, and her husband Dean of Marlborough; ten great-grandchildren, Anthony Sullivan, Ashley Levens and her husband David, Krysti Hoisington and her husband Jeffery, Matthew Lupisella and his fiancé Jennifer, Mark Lupisella, Meaghan Lyons and her husband Christopher, Dylan Sullivan, Michael Lupisella and his wife Raechel, Makayla Lupisella,  and A.J Lupisella; six great-great-grandchildren, Lila, Michael, Chloe, Lyons, Vincent and Samuel; her stepdaughter, Donna Comeau of Marlborough and her children, Lynn, David, Sharon, and Janel. She was the sister of the late Francis Surprenant of Westborough.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday August 1 at noon in Immaculate Conception Church, Prospect Street. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Collins Funeral Home 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s name to the Little Audrey Santo Foundation, 64 South Flagg Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
