MARLBOROUGH – Web Industries Inc. has announced plans to hire approximately 125 skilled equipment operators, engineering personnel, bio scientists, quality assurance, purchasing and inventory specialists beginning immediately and continuing over the next three months at its Holliston, Lateral Flow Diagnostics Center of Excellence.

A multi-million dollar investment in lateral flow immunoassay (LFI) product development and production equipment accompanies the hiring initiative.

The job opportunities come at a time when the Eastern Massachusetts region is suffering from employment challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Kevin Young, Web Industries vice president of the company’s Medical device manufacturing business, the decision to expand the plant’s human and physical resources is in response to burgeoning needs for COVID-19 test devices.

“The availability of COVID-19 tests is critical now because industry and governmental agencies need them to get the economy opened up and put healthy people back to work,” Young said. “The federal government estimates needs for about 1 million tests per day. Web has advanced manufacturing capabilities that will play a critical role in meeting that demand.”

Although the Holliston-based Center of Excellence has produced billions of medical and life science tests over the past 20 years, additional capacity and people are needed to achieve the scale necessary for current and future test production needs.

Young said Web Industries is currently working with a number of companies that have developed COVID-19 tests and which are close to receiving FDA EUA (Emergency Use Authorization).

“We’ll be saving lives with the COVID-19 tests,” Young said. “We are investing millions in highly automated equipment to produce them. We need skilled people, and we need them now. Look for Web Industries to expedite qualified job seekers into its workforce.”
