MARLBOROUGH – Leonard Klayton, 72, of Marlborough and formerly of Natick died Friday, May 1, 2020, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham from complications of COVID-19.
He was born in Boston, the son of the late Nathan and Muriel (Mizler) Klayton, and was a graduate of Revere High School.
Leonard was a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
He was a professional percussionist and also played multiple instruments. In addition to multiple gigs at weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs, he enjoyed playing on the jazz boat Boston harbor cruises and the Esplanade. Music was his passion, and he enjoyed listening to a large collection of jazz and bossa nova. Since his childhood days in Revere, going to the beach continued to be his favorite leisure activity.
He leaves two daughters, Jennifer Lynne Sousa of Marlborough and Melissa B. Klayton- Popplewell of Dunedin, Florida; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Sophia, and Jonathan Sousa all of Marlborough and Devin Popplewell of Dunedin, Florida. He was the former husband of Barbara Lerner of Newton. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald Klayton of Nashua, NH.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
