BOSTON – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 53,348 new COVD-19 cases Saturday, April 25.

There is no cure and no vaccine, reminded the Governor, speaking at a press conference.

Massachusets Governor Charlie Baker had said the surge in COVID-19 cases was expected between April 10 and April 20.

The Governor had extended his order for non-essential businesses to close or operate remotely until May 4, and this week he said he is not ready to announce if he is extending that order or would lift it.

Governor Baker said until we have a significant number of days either in a reduction in positive tests or a reduction in hospitalization, it does not make sense to re-open.

“We are not going to be interested in re-opening anything,” until we can see more data, said the Governor.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 2,379positive cases since the pandemic began, as of April 25.

As of today at 4 p.m., the state has tested 226,845 individuals.

.The state tested more than 11,500 individuals in the last 24 hours, the most in a single day.

Since the pandemic began, the Commonwealth is now reporting 2,730 deaths.

The Commonwealth reported 174 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

Earlier this week, the number of COVID-19 cases hospitalized was at 9%. Yesterday at 8%, and today at 7%. A good sign.

Middlesex County has the most positive cases at 12,253

Framingham has the most cases in MetroWest at 574 cases. The City has not announced numbers today yet.

The United States now has the post confirmed cases worldwide at 925,551 at at 3:30 p.m. on April 25.

Worldwide, there are more than 2.88 million confirmed cases.

The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 50,439 deaths as of noon on April 24.

The U.S. is leading the world in COVID-19 deaths.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced this week,he is closing schools physically for the remaining 2019-2020 school year.

Last month, the Governor said anyone entering the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The Governor announced a new coronavirus alert system this week that will let residents get updates from state officials sent directly to their cell phones. Text COVIDMA to 888-777 to sign up. The state has added a Spanish language component.
