FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Public Schools is delaying the creation of a screening committee for a new Barbieri Elementary School Principal.
Earlier this year, Principal Susan McGilvray-Rivet announced she would retire at the end of the school year.
On Thursday, February 27, the Office of Human Resources engaged in a very lively staff forum and an equally enlightening parent forum, said Framingham Assistant Superintendent of Schools Inna London.
“Both groups, as well as the survey results that we have received, reveal an absolute emphasis on the need for a bilingual principal at Barbieri,” said London.

“Currently, there are 14 candidates, only 5 of whom indicated a fluency in Spanish (this fluency would, indeed, need to be confirmed via the interview process) — despite repeated and expansive posting efforts,” said London.
“Consequently, at this time, we are going to stretch out the screening process and postpone our plans to convene a Screening Committee and embark on the screening and interview process, which was due to begin next week,” said London.

“As we look for a principal to succeed McGilvray-Rivet, please know that my ideal candidate would be multilingual, certainly with fluency in Spanish. I wanted to clear up any misconceptions surrounding our priorities with this hire,” said Superintendent of Schools Bob Tremblay in a statement.
“I am sincerely and wholeheartedly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause; please know that this change in plans is solely due to our commitment to obtaining the best candidates, and ultimately the best principal, that all Barbieri stakeholders deserve,” said London.
