FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham plans to construct a new parking garage downtown.
in June of 2022, the City of Framingham filed an application with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to construct a new downtown Framingham parking garage, between the Framingham Police Station and the Memorial Building.
Recently, the Sisitsky Administration was notified that the Commonwealth will give the City money to design the garage.
“I was pleased to secure $2.5 million in appropriations to support the design of a new parking garage in downtown Framingham between the police station and the Memorial Building,” said Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland).
Mayor Charlie Sisitsky told the City Councilors last year the proposed garage could house as many as 300-plus vehicles.
“This will serve the needs of the city, downtown businesses, and community members accessing the proposed Regional Justice Center, which I have so long fought for, to be built at the Danforth Building,” said Senate President Spilka.

Last June, Mayor said we would like to see solar panels on the parking structure and and charging stations inside.
“Construction of the proposed parking garage will increase the parking supply and unlock potential redevelopment of city owned and other under-utilized properties downtown,” said City of Framingham Director of Planning & Community Development Sarkis Sarkisian. “Redevelopment of these properties will increase the housing stock and the number and type of supporting businesses leading to enhanced economic viability of the downtown. A mix of permanent jobs and temporary construction jobs are anticipated to be directly related to the parking garage development as well as the resulting housing and business development enabled by the garage.”
After the design phase, the City will be seeking funding for construction.
Earlier this month, the City of Framingham purchased 188 Concord Street, an office building adjacent to the Memorial Building, along with 44 parking spaces.
The City plans to have a regional dispatch center in the office building, along with a public health clinic on the first floor.
