NEW BEDFORD – Framingham High sophomore Marie Scanlon won the 55-meter hurdles event at the 33rd Annual Z. Walter Janiak freshman & sophomore indoor track & field meet at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School yesterday, February 4.

Scanlon won the hurdles in 9.69 seconds.

Second place was sophomore Emma Foley in 9.77 seconds.

Framingham sophomore Stella Capuzzi captured fifth place in 10.80 seconds. Framingham had three hurdlers in the top 12, with Moana Guillaume in 11th place.

The Flyers were also strong in the 1,000-meter event with Sydney Palma and Bella Ceruti finished third and fourth. The freshmen’s times were 3:38.23 minutes and 3:43.19 minutes.

Freshman Danielle Mirsky finished fourth in the 55-meter dash. her time was 8.43 seconds. The winner was Mia Flanagan of Foxborough in 8.15 seconds.

Framingham sophomore Amelia Ebel finished 10th in the 600-meter event. Her time was 1:59.91 minutes.

The Flyers finished 5th in the 4X400 race with runners Ebel, Scanlon, Palma, and sophomore Natalie Spodic, said Coach Chris Collins.

It was a race just getting to the meet in New Bedford, as the bus never made it to the high school. Athletic Director Paul Spear, Coach Collins, and several parents, eventually got the Flyers indoor track & field team to the meet.
