FRAMINGHAM – Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark has secured $1.7 million for a clean water project at Lake Waushakum in the City of Framingham.

The $1.7 million investment in the City of Framingham is part of a $1.7 trillion spending bill that has passed the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives and now heads to President Joseph Biden’s desk for his signature.

The funding would be used to improve water quality and reduce impacts from severe storms.

This project focuses on design, permitting, and construction to retrofit the 11 existing concrete stormwater outfall pipes and headwalls at Waushakum Beach with green infrastructure and stormwater treatment.

“The retrofit will be designed with consideration of recreational amenities and ADA compliance at the City beach, with the ultimate goal of addressing environmental injustice” in the City of Framingham in this neighborhood wrote the Congresswoman.

“We were in touch with her office earlier this summer on drainage work to keep Lake Waushakum clean and safe from containments,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “We learned yesterday that this project in an environmental justice neighborhood was included in the trillion dollar budget. Katherine Clark has been terrific looking out for framingham.”

“The resident of Framingham are forever grateful for the leadership of Katherine Clark for securing the necessary $1.7 million dollars in funds for Framingham’s clean water project at Lake Waushakum,” said City Council Chair Phil Ottaviani Jr.
