FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky has selected the Director of Public Health in the Town of Sudbury to come to the City of Framingham.
William Murphy has been the Director of Public Health in Sudbury since September 2014.
Prior to that, he was the health agent for the Town of Wayland for three years from September 2011-2014.
He also previously served as the “Assistant Director of Public Health in the Towns of Wellesley and Weston between 1994 and 1997.
Between the Wellesley/Weston and Wayland, he was the owner of PureGround Engineering in Lincoln, an environmental/civil engineering company specializing in Title 5 septic systems.
The City Council will need to approve the appointment. A simple majority of the 11-member City Council is needed.

The salary range for the position was posted as $107,597 to $146,524.
It is unknown what is stating salary will be if approved by the City Council.
The City of Framingham has been without a Health Director since October, when former director Alex DePalo submitted her resignation. She was hired as the new director of a food pantry in Concord/Maynard.
The position was posted in September, and Murphy applied in October.
“My career in environmental/public health along with environmental engineering has contributed to developing a professional analytical approach to understanding systems and formulating responses to improved health and well-bring,” wrote Murphy in his application to the City.

“Appropriate environmental health responses will be necessary as we understand emerging science and data driven information. Addressing health disparities and inequities must be integral to all environmental health responses,” wrote Murphy in his application. “My professional career has prepared me to address comprehensive public and environmental health issues, many in crisis situations.”
Murphy has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental/Public Health from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He has a Masters of Science in Ecology from Lesley University.
It is unknown how many applicants applied for the position and how many were interviewed.
The City’s Public Health nurse retired earlier this year. She has not been replaced.
