FRAMINGHAM – Herbert Carl Walker, Sr. (Buzz), 76, of Framingham, passed away unexpectedly November 8, 2022, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital surrounded by his loving wife Barbara and his two sons Herbert Jr and Brian, both were his pride and joy.

Herbert was born to the late William and Grace (Sauvan) Walker on August 8, 1946 in Newburyport and was the husband of Barbara (Donovan) Walker for 56 years.

Herbert is survived by Barbara, two sons Herbert Jr and Brian, daughter-in-law Rachel, 8 grandchildren Donovan, Devon, Colton, Aubrey, Brayden, Ayden, Ava and Emily, he cherished his time spent with each of them.

Herbert was predeceased by two sisters Madeline and Dorothea and survived by brothers William, Irving, Donald and Joseph and sisters Brenda Taylor and Grace Trahan.  He looked at Barbara’s family as his own, fondly remembering the late Thomas and Evelyn (Mahair) Donovan and the late brothers Robert and William Donovan.  He is survived by Barbara’s siblings Joseph, Richard, Thomas, Paul, Elizabeth Laliberte, Patricia Bragg, Maureen Gauthier, Margaret Berry, Anna Donovan and Evelyn Plourde he never looked at you as in-law but as brothers and sisters.  He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and he always enjoyed the times he got to spend with all of you.  He loved to get together with his large family and we were fortunate enough to get together one last time over this summer for a cookout with him and a lot of the family present which he really enjoyed.

Herbert and Barbara were married on June 11, 1966, shortly after he was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg NC from October 1966-68 reaching the rank of SP4.

Upon his honorable discharge from the military Herbert and Barbara moved back to Amesbury, where he studied to become a machinist at Haverhill Trade and eventually bought a home in Merrimac to raise their family.

Herbert began his career as a machinist/tool & die maker holding jobs with several local businesses including AT&T and Lucent Technologies in North Andover until his retirement in 2006.

He spent several years as a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach in Merrimac as well as a football coach for the Pentucket Regional Junior HS program.  The teams he coached were among the best teams in the area, that was a testament to the hard work he instilled in his practices to always make sure his players were prepared.  After coaching he became an umpire for the baseball and softball teams in the Merrimack Valley ranging from little league to college which kept him involved in local sports that he loved to follow.

Herbert and Barbara sold their Merrimac home in 2015 to move closer to their grandchildren in Framingham, and where they lived until his recent passing.  He enjoyed the time he spent with all his family, but his grandchildren meant the world to him and would smile from ear to ear when he saw any of them.

There are no plans for a service at this time, but the family will schedule a celebration of his life at a future date.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org,  as Herbert was a 2-time cancer survivor and may have been taken sooner if not for the advances in medicine to combat the deadly disease.

Arrangements by the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home of Framingham.  For online tributes or to share a memory with the Walker Family, kindly visit www.mccarthyfh.com.
