Tigers Defeat Flyers 96-82

NEWTON – The Framingham High girls swim & dive team has had to face a lot obstacles this season.

First, they are without a home pool, as Keefe Tech closed its pool announcing an estimated $5 million repairs.

So Flyers head coach Micke Foley has the Framingham swimmers & divers practicing at the Wayland Community Pool, where he isthe ehad coach of the co-ed Wayland High swim team in the winter season.

The Flyers second home meet of the season was scheduled for this past weekend at Wayland, but high winds forced a delay in putting the “bubble” on the pool, and thus the Framingham vs Newton North meet became a home meet for the Tigers.

Framingham lost that battle in the pool 96-82 on Saturday, October 1.

Framingham is now 2-3 overall, and will travel to Blue Hill Regional High today, October 3, for a meet against the Wildcats of Milton High at 4:15 p.m.

Newton North opened the meet with a win in the medley relay. The Tigers touched the wall first in 2:04.18 minutes.

Framingham swimmers Amy DiPasquale, Bella Bowen, Ashwina Bengari, and Emma Angelo took second place, with the Tigers taking third.

Newton North swimmers finished 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle event. Framingham’s Alexandra Tsizer captured third place.

The Tigers swept the individual medley event with Nevie Lee winning it in 2:31.98 minutes, Bengari finished 4th for Framingham.

Newton North’s Kate Vrdaneta won the sprint event in 26.74 seconds. Framingham sophomore Marie Scanlon finished second, with Angelo third in the 50-yard freestyle event.

Flyer Emily Richardson won the diving competition with 214.45 points. Framingham’s Kat Barry took third place.

Scanlon dived for the first time and scored 126 points.

The Tigers Claire Holland won the 100-yard butterfly event in 1:10.26 minutes. Her teammate took second place. Framingham swimmer Andrea Ledesma finished in third place.

Newton North also finished 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle event, with Vrdaneta touching the wall first in 59.72 seconds. Angelos was Framingham’s fastest swimmer in third place.

In the distance event, Newton North’s Alex Vaillancourt won in 5:50.47 minutes. Lee took second for the Tigers in 5:52.13 minutes. Framingham’s best swimmer was Tsizer at 6:08 minutes.

Newton won the 200-yard relay in 1:52.62 minutes. Framingham swimmers Angelo, Scanlon, Emma Bowen, and Tsizer finished second in the relay.

Tigers Parker Deveaux and Claire Holland finished 1-2 in the backstroke. Framingham’s DiPasquale was a very close third in that event.

Newton North again took first and second place in the breaststroke event. Framingham Flyer Bella Bowen finished third.
