Tuesday, August 2 is National Night Out

FRAMINGHAM – Tuesday, August 2 is National Night Out.

National Night out is an annual nationwide initiative that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer.

The best way to build a safer community is to get to know your neighbors; police encourage interaction as a crime prevention tool, according to the campaign.

Neighbors that get to know each other are more likely to watch out for each other and report suspicious activities.

To celebrate National Night out Framingham Housing Authority is hosting an event for its residents on Carlson Road fro 5 to 7 p.m.

Framingham Police are working with residents from Pelham Apartments for a block party at the Pelham LifeLong Community center on August 2 from 3 to 6 p.m.

National Night Out began in August 1984. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.

This is the 38th year and 38 million neighbors in 16,000 communities are expected to participate on Tuesday night.
