ASHLAND – Ashland Town Manager Michael Herbert issued a statement following the deadly shooting at an elementary school in Texas yesterday.
Nineteen children and two adults were killed in Tuesday’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. The Texas shooting is the deadliest US school shooting since the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, in February 2018, when 17 people were killed.
“The horrible details pertaining to the deaths of schoolchildren and community members of the Uvalde, Texas, community continue to unfold. With 19 children and 2 adults lost, the emotional toll from this school shooting as well as the recent shooting in Buffalo is devastating. These reprehensible acts of violence not only destroy the family and friends of those that have lost loved ones; they destroy the fabric of communities,” said Town Manager Herbert in a statement.

“We send our thoughts and condolences to the Uvalde community. As we consider these lives lost, I hope we take this moment as a reminder to do better. Let’s be kinder, let’s work together,” said Herbert.
“Safety and providing services to our community members are two of my top priorities. I will continue working with our schools, emergency responders, and Human Services team to better our Ashland community and facilitate a safe, inclusive, and harmonious community,” concluded Manager Herbert.
