SUDBURY – Alan Joseph Marrone of Sudbury passed away on Monday morning, February 21, 2022, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, at the age of 59.
The son of Rudolph “Rudy” Marrone and Mary (Giallongo) Marrone was an icon in Sudbury and well known for his family’s bakery, “Marrone’s Bake Shop”. The Bake Shop was a staple in Sudbury for 42 years and was known as an amazing scratch bakery. They were well respected for their wedding and birthday cakes that ran through generations. He was constantly asked to deliver birthday cakes to their kids at private school and oh yeah, can you pick up balloons too or families would order for their kids when they had moved away.
Alan was born on April 24, 1962, in Medford. He attended Minuteman High School for 2 years, then graduated from Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in 1980. Alan loved learning and constantly took college classes throughout his life. He had a passion for real estate and received his Real Estate Broker’s License.
As a local Sudburian and business owner Alan always fought for better taxation for the commercial sector and wanted to bring affordable housing to those that strived to live in Sudbury. This led him to build the first 40B affordable housing project under the Massachusetts STARTS program. He fought for 2 years to get the project approved under much scrutiny from the town and abutters and in the end was able to build 16 units that were all sold in 13 months, which proves that it was much needed. This project is what you see today known as “Carriage Lane ” on Route 20 across from Bullfinches.
Alan loves the town of Sudbury. Alan was a Freemasons, loved fishing and had a special place in his heart for his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with friends that he had from as early as 1st grade.
He took pride in his wife Linda and all his daughter Adriana’s accomplishments, she is a freshman at Bentley University and he is so proud of her.
Alan fought hard for 9 years with many medical issues, due to surgery complications in 2012. He woke up every morning with a smile on his face and ready to conquer the day.
Alan is reunited with his parents, siblings, extended family, and beloved friends in heaven.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Linda (Perkins) Marrone; his beloved daughter, Adriana Isabella Marrone (18) ; his siblings Dale (Marrone) Gerard, Patrice (Marrone) Bates, and his nieces Kristin and Michelle Gerard.
He was predeceased by his loving parents Rudolph “Rudy” Valentino Marrone and Mary (Giallongo) Marrone, and brothers Dana and Glen Marrone.
Those who wish to pay their respects to Alan and his family can do so on Wednesday, March 2nd in the Mary Catherine Chapel of the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street in WALTHAM from 4 to 8 p.m.
Family & Friends are welcome to gather to celebrate the love & friendship Alan shared with others at a Funeral Mass on Thursday March 3 at 10: a.m. at the Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road in SUDBURY.
There will be a graveside service at Wadsworth Cemetery with the release of balloons and a celebration luncheon at Lotus Blossom to reminisce and share stories with each other of our memories of knowing such an amazing man.
